LPG any good ?
« on: 16 November 2006, 23:25:36 »

Greetings,
I have just got some LPG kit from Ebay, a 2nd hand OMVL set, and am going to need a tank and filler, and prob a few other bits as things go on. Anyone know where to get tanks and LPG parts at good prices?. I still use my boot a lot, so I was thinking about one of these tanks that goes in place of  the spare, yet they seem to be as rare as.....and cost a lot. Surely they are just the toroidal tank mounted vertically with a different fuel gauge sensor?.

I know a few members have got LPG; what do you think of LPG?. Is the saving worth the effort, or is the extra number of bits to service a pain ( not 1 fuel system but 2 !). With the move towards 'green fuel' it might be a good idea to get converted because they might start taxing petrol cars harder. How about an 'LPG Installation Party' ?.

On a different tack, space and flexibility are some of the reasons I like the Omega. I currently  have 2 *3m lengths of gutter pipe currently in without a lot of bother, I used to regularly carry 12 off 17" monitors, and a couple of 15"s, and could still drive in comfort and style. In fact, I once got a whole Central heating system in, a boiler and 6 rads, OK a couple on the roof but...Other cars may go faster, but they are not as versatile in doing different jobs. Combi van or Omega, you choose!
Cheers Ken

You will need  a cylinder tank, due to rear light cluster - try Ebay

Quite a few specialists for bits  as well like Tinley and WTV. filler will either be hole on the rear wing or stick it on a tow bar

Can't give you advice on the gas.

But on your other tack, Omega every time, I use mine for work.My mate keeps on saying get a van. I say why should I spend all day in a noisy cold, boring van, when I can sit in an near armchair in comfort, with all this luxury around me. :y and you can get a 3 m length of copper in, saving having to tie it to the roof rack. ;D

As Martin - our resident lpg expert - says, cannot use 'spare wheel' tank on saloon as you cannot get to n/s rear light cluster to change bulbs.  I looked into it, as I too do not want to lose my boot.

I suppose you could change all the bulbs for mutiple led ones? It might involve extra work, like adding load resistors to keep the comp happy and the indicator relay :-/
But as Martin and Jaime says, even if you did do this and you'd be unlucky but any prob with the light cluster and it would be a tank out job!

Hi there,
yes I've just had a look and I see what you mean, its impossible to get the lamp housing out with the spare in the way. I initially thought of this because on the Gascarco.com site there is a pic of an Omega with a 57 Litre toroid tank in the spare wheel well. I wonder if the company thought of this when they installed his system. He must have fun at MOT time!. ;D
