MOT Time
« on: 21 November 2006, 18:45:14 »

Yep mines off for a taxi mot tomorrow booked in for 9am.

£116 to the local council today.....so they can give me a slip for free mot (yeah right!), then check the V5 to see im not lying abouts it age....then check ive got taxi insurance....then if it passes MOT they give me a badge to say its ok to use as taxi for the next year......feel your being ripped off  >:(

Hopefully tho it should fly through......ive even put the correct size wheels back on it.... ;D ;D

Actually i havent swapped em about......coz i dont need to.....i havent got a 'meter' in it.

Thats actually a trick used by taxi's fitted with meters......during the mot the meter is checked for correct calibration......so correct size wheels are on the car.....soon as its passed...some (not all) will put smaller size wheels back on.... ;)

So are the smaller wheels used to make the meter go faster ;)

Well it failed  :(

Nothing major.......two front tyres had worn on the insides, enuf for the mot man to fail it.....he also said the backs were doing the same but still ok for the time being.
He said he tests about 5 taxi's a day.....and its a pretty common fail....he reckoned its all the speed bumps (well mountains!) in Swindon that does it.

So two new tyres later and ive got the ticket  :)

Cheers guys.....yeah in the tyre place i use.....the fitter was a bit suprised the fronts failed....not quite sure of the exact % but you are allowed a certain % of under the legal limit across the tread.....i spose about 1inch of the tyres were below legal limit on the insides.....which on a meega tyre aint much.....but never mind ..... mot tester wernt happy and theres no arguing with them so new tyres it was.

Probably would have needed changing soon anyway, so no real extra cost to do it....
