« on: 01 December 2006, 23:48:57 »

if i grab the steering wheel on the miggy i can feel freeplay if i rock it top to bottom.

Is there a bush or something that needs replacing? i have a feeling that it will fail its MOT due to the movement

TIA

Mine does this too Jay.  You can feel it knocking slightly over bumps.

I too will be interested to hear the fix.

Come on guys, get out of bed.  Some of us have been at work for an hour already!

I would try setting the column to a different place for a few miles (lever on the left side, pull towards you, adjust wheel and release all, most models) to see if it makes a difference.  Could be wear in the one setting?

If no change, then steering idler gets a lot of stick on here.  Would check there (someone clever to explain how?) then track ends.  Apparently the steering box also adjusts but normally runs for ages wirth no probs.

my tuppence, but its a reply  :y

My last Omega, an M reg GLS  did this also. It didn't have adjustable height, and the steering failed an MOT once. I asked at the helpful leicester vaux agents, and it was something that was part of the steering column, that would cost a lot of dosh to replace( I think it was part of the steering column). It didn't appear to affect the steering, eg she still went in a straight line, so I went to a different MOT and she passed the 3 following years. Obviously not serious enough a complaint to warrent a fail. :)  Surely its slack in the steering system that would be a worry :)
