Paper Clip Test
« on: 31 December 2006, 11:55:32 »

There are frequent references to the above on the site
Please can someone explain what it does, how it's done & how to interpret the results?

Your guess was correct - no mention of the 2.5TD (BMW)
Any other suggestions?

Do not believe you can do it on the tractor engine, I think it needs a code reader... :(

Maybe, I should have said "BMW crap, even more detuned in an Omega, but tunable up a a fair bit" ;)

Actually, I like diesels, just not impressed with this one in std form (esp in Omega, but also in Landrover and BMW specs)...

Having reasonable torque (for low revs) and a turbo does make it quite chippable though :y

I have to say i was impressed, was a very smooth engine. For a 12 year old diesel, its very impressive silky smooth. The mods omegatoy made sure make it quick out of the blocks (chipped & fan strapped to the turbo)

Can't comment on the standard version.

The standard is something like 130bhp - less than your 2.2. Lots more torque, but no high rpm power like your 2.2 has...

Couple with the extra weight of the engine (the bmw straight six diesel is very heavy), and in standard form makes it sluggish around town.  Like any diesel though, a fantastic motorway cruiser - at motorway speeds, its right in middle of it power range...

But then, even V6 can be cumbersome around town - lot of metal to get moving...

Well I'm happy enough with it's performance - a very good workhorse hauling around a considerable weight of PA gear & instruments etc. Only wish would be improved economy, not interested in speed or acceleration too much.
Still would apreciated knowing which engine type & therefore which cruise stalk to order though
Also having read several references to the door checks & 'clunks', I've got a clunk. Is there a bush involved in the pivot? If so what part No. do I need to obtain?

Pitchfork, I'm glad the tractor engine suits you well. Due to the torque, it is good at lugging weight around, and for towing. It won't win any races from the lights, but who cares about that ;)

Probably best ordering stalk from dealer, they should know which one it is - I would guess either of the 2 wire ones should work fine.

Absolute first thing to do about door is replace the cheap plastic bushes (few pence each) - guide and part no in Maintenence Guides section here...   ...if that doesn't cure it, then there is a kit to reinforce it...

:-/ Oh? I don't know about that!  ;) I had an Astra in tow (literally) the other night and I still managed to keep up as we set off from the lights - I even left one bloke, who was obviously dawdling!  ;D
Instantaneous fuel consumption was just about in double figures though.  :(
