Bonnet release

Bloody cable snapped earlier....any easy way to open the bonnet and replace the damn thing.?

But i would be interested to hear if there is an easy way.

Reason is yesterday i managed to shut my bonnet with black eco tech plastic strip sitting on the offside front wing by the battery.....result was bloody bonnet release wouldnt release the bonnet as the bonnet wasnt sitting square.

What i ended up doing (and no help with a snapped cable) was wrap the bonnet release lever with brown packing tape and then with it pulled back as far as poss, taped it to the steering wheel.....then i was able to jiggle the bonnet so it opened.

Where has it snapped? If there is still some in the car or the release handle has broken you may be able to grab the cable with pliers and pull it but you will need someone to press the front of the bonnet down to release the tension on the latch I would think.

Sorry should have said...it feels like i still have cable connected behind the bonnet realese so im assuming its snapped around the bonnet area.

Im not desperate to get in the bonnet just yet,however i assume it needs to be opend to replace cable....find out where its snapped.?

Just looked in the haynes and apparently it runs right around the back of the engine fuses and back along the bulkhead :o

It tells you about removal/refitting but, of course, nothing about a snapped one! >:(

Marks DTM will know I'm sure :y

The last time I did one, I used a long pozi screw driver to remove the two grill securing screws through the small gap between the bonnet and grill, use a flat blade to release the central securing clip (its just above the vauxhall badge.

Then the tough bit, you need to roise the two lower pegs from the holes in the bumper and ease the grill out ....its dm tight though.

You should now be able to to get the under side of the release catch.

But, do try pulling the cable in the cabin first, get somebody to apply some  (not excessive) downwards pressure on the bonnet whilst doing this.....
