a happy medium ??
« on: 30 December 2006, 22:54:38 »

my car 2.5v6 gls pre.facelift estate.
my problem screen misting up like buggery. as soon as i get in the back windows steam up then the windscreen. no evidence of wet floors at all or any leaks. screen clears (eventually) after heaters on full hot and full screen but i feel like a oven basted turkey at this time.
now i have standard heater controls, is there any control setting that i can  a) keep the misty w/screen clear b) not sweat my bits off on a trip and c) not have to have the fan speed set on max speed for ages? would the intervention of recirculation switch/ aircon switch be of any help?  and im not sure whether when both heaters are set fully cold theres any airflow up to the screen even with the direction know pointing that way.
ps when i turn the direction knob there is a hiss sound.

Hi,

Have you checked that your scuttle drains are clear?  If they are blocked, this problem will result.

I am in the process of writing a how to guide - keep watching this area of the forum for the next ½ hour or so.

Hope this will help

I do remember Marks DTM saying..and this surprised me....that if you put too much junk in the right hand storage bin in the boot, it stops the air flowing freely through and out of the back of the car :-?

OK, as an experiment, since that long thread about it a few weeks ago, I have had the ECO switch on (A/C off) on my MV6.  I am not suffering any significant misting - and when 4 adults got in in a week or so ago, all soaking wet, it clear quickly as expected (despite boot being absolutely full with xmas food shopping).

So, they is nothing wrong with Omega's ventilation system when it is working properly.

So:
Check scuttle drain is clear (see guide in Maintenence Guides).
Check boot bin (where CD player is on prefacelifts, and where first aid kit is stored) - this is the rear vents, and must be kept clear).
Try to remove damp air from car - a proper dehumidifier, or driving around with sunroof on tilt (or rear windows slightly open).

Can you hear the recirculation flat opening and closing when you press the resirculation button? I had the arm between the actuator and the flap fall off years ago. I can't remember if the flap was open or closed but I had to take the glove box out to find the problem.

If the hiss is a short one as you move the control it's normal but if it's continuous a vacuum pipe has fallen off somewhere.
