EML at high revs problem

I recently went on a long run in my Omega 2.5 V6 and noticed when doing over 90mph that the EML would come on and the car would lose power. I have only noticed this once before when revving the car in a low gear to around 4500-5000 rpm that the light would come on after about 20 seconds or so but when the revs drop the light goes out again.

I have just bought a timing belt kit and while I was getting this fixed should I get the camshaft sensor replaced as it may be faulty causing the EML to come on or am I barking up the wrong tree.

It only comes on if going over 4500rpm and does go out again after returning below those revs. Its a 1999 2.5 V6. Any advice would be appreciated.

Do a paperclip test, it will tell you why ECU is putting EML on ;)

I just got back in from doing the paperclip test and all I get is 12. I then took the car to a quiet road to try to simulate the problem by running for about three quarters of a mile at 5500rpm in second gear and then did it in third but no light came on. Dunno if it was just an intermitant fault which seems to have gone away on its own, any thoughts and should I just ignore it untill it ever reappears again?.

Sounds like a fueling issue......when was the fuel filter last changed?

I have no idea, is it an expensive job as I am not really too good at anything mechanical. I have cleaned the ICV valve before tho but have no idea whats involved with the fuel filter and replacing it.

Its under the rear of the car.....held in by two clips (which can be hard to remove without the correct tool) about a tenner fr the filter tops and about 10-15 mins to change ..

Sounds like a job I could tackle, where about on the rear of the car, under the petrol tank side wheel arch liner?

Might not be any help, but I had this exact problem with a hired vectra. They took it back for a few hours and it was one of the injectors.

I ran injector cleaner through the system when I got the car last Novemeber, might be worth me doing it again though, thanks for the idea :) I run it on V Power from Shell all the time so it should help keep the injectors in good shape I hope.

Jack up the car and you'll see it under the petrol tank - no need to remove liner on a saloon.

Here's some pics of before and after.  FYI clips 50p from Vx - don't forget to buy first...

Thanks for the link and the pics, just what a poor mechanic like me needs to help me along. I have bid on the filter and will also pick up the clips from Vauxhall also :). Thanks for the help everyone :)

Jack up the car and secure on an axel stand.  Pull out fuse 18 (see here http://www.omegaowners.com/forum/YaBB.pl?num=1161602008) and the engine will die - this depressurises the fuel system and stops you getting sprayed with petrol.

Clips can be removed with a small flat screwdriver by pressing them in to release - see how the new ones work for ease - then simply pull off the hoses - at this point you will get a cup full of petrol from the filter so have a container handy.  Fitting is a simple as pushing the hoses back on the clips, lower the car and refit the fuse - no spluttering - the engine will operate as normal.  Took me 15 mins including takning pics and it's the first one I've done.  Good luck & no smoking  :y
