Help!!! Coolant leak
« on: 27 January 2007, 10:17:31 »

Can you help me please.

In a nutshell got a nasty surprise driving to work and once the steam had died down I saw coolant pissing out from the bottom of the driver's side cylinder bank/block area.

Any known issues with hoses etc in that area?

Basically when I pour water into the header tank it drains straight out so the leak must be low down.

Fresh anti freeze and flush done about 6 weeks ago and all been good until now.

Help please and any one you reccommend for repairs in SE Essex? (Close to lakeside Thurrock area)

Cheers

It leaks from the engine block with the engine off??

Sure its not the rubber pipe to the header tank from the drivers side block?

Havent had a chance to get the car up in the air and have a look.

Not off work until monday.

Simply got towed home, kicked wife out of her car then drove to work.

Whats the going price for a heater bypass valve?

Sure its not the rubber pipe to the header tank from the drivers side block?

The rubber and metal pipe from the base of the header tank are leak free.

The stream/jet of water is coming from the back of the engine at the very bottom of the drivers side cylinder block area

Must be a pipe from the heater matrix, although they are not as low as the leak you describe.  :-/

I've never done an HBV Andy, but I know there are a few that have. I'm sure some one will have the answer soon.

IIRC it is not a massively expensive job, just very fiddly.

Others may know better, BUT, been there too, it's scuttle off for access, though I didn't!  (scuttle is the guard / bulkhead around the wiper motor and other bits)  It sits, looking in from the front, directly to the rear of the plenium chamber, (That' the bit on top says Eco Tech / NOT taking the P, don't know how tech you are) it's then 3 main 3/4" ish bore rubber pipes onto the valve, and a vac pipe to operate it, if like mine there were NO visible signs of a leak, BUT it P'd out worserer and worserer!!  (Kids told me how to spell worserer)  Anyway, dead easy to swap, top up coolant 50/50, sorted...  about £30 from VX or SAAB  same item number..  Hope this helps..
