Omega running badly
« on: 17 February 2007, 20:00:38 »

 :(

Hi people of Omega world, heres hoping you can help...

I seem to have a problem that many people are experiencing, but seems to be many possible causes, would like some info to try to nail down my problem as it is going into the garage next week to be seen to...

Ok, firstly, it takes several cranks to start engine. When running it just doesnt seem to be running smoothly, especially when it gets warm. In top gear at say 40-45 mph try to pull away and car seems to misfire like mad, use sport mode and kickdown and it seems to power through this, but still does not seem to pull properly...

It has had recent work by previous owner, rocker covers, spark plugs and leads replaced as oil in spark plug wells...

Has also had (before these problems) an HBV replaced?!

Having read the threads, this leads me to think my fault may be either incorrectly fitted HT leads or DIS pack (due to HBV??)

Any thoughts gratefully received! Garage has already had quick look for me, hooked it up to monitor, but no fault codes shown. They cleaned the front multiram 'butterfly flaps' as these were gunked up but no improvement :( :(

Dave (oh and its an autobox if that makes difference?)

Misfires, no fault codes, are often HT related, so plugs, leads and DIS...

my old omega had cam covers, spark plugs and leads replaced due oil in spark plug wells creating a mis-fire. Some months later after I'd passed it onto another family member, apparently it started running badly, especially under acceleration (or attempted !!!) and generally sounding rough.

Cause ... DIS pack failure - possibly brought on by the old HT leads being cooked. This does NOT generate a fault code (just to be helpful), so it could be DIS pack failure in your case too ... HT lead connections are marked on the top of the DIS pack (if you can see them !!)

thanks for the help and fast responses, was leaning towards the dispack being the culprit  :(

:D thanks for the advice....had DIS pack changed, old one actually had a big spilt in it, so no wonder the car was struggling! Just need to sort the drivers door handle now as it does not always open the door and need too much force!!

Cheers again guys! 8-)
