Engine Out
« on: 05 March 2007, 19:50:29 »

ok guys. think the v6 in my motor has to many problems to fix and it would be cheaper to swap out for another... so what needs removing to get it out? obv firstly removing the gearbox...

so far i have figured out:
  • Exhaust manifold
  • Coolant pipes (to rad)
  • Fuel Lines
  • Air Intake
  • Vac Lines

what else needs removing? any easy way of figuring out where the vac lines go back in? lol

thanks. Rob

 :y  hi rob
when i took my 2.0l engine out i labelled everything up
with numbers 1 on the vac pipe and the other no 1 on where it came off
made it a lot easier when putting back...
   good luck  :y :y  mick

I expect the manifolds stay on, since removing the engine is one of only a few ways to change the EM gaskets.

Manifolds stay on..

drop the downpipes..

bagpipes and rad out, so you don't damage it

all coolant hoses / fuel lines / vac pipes outta the way

all electricals, (don't forget crank sensor)..

Airbox assembly and all intake stuff off..

Scuttle off

Don't forget coolant hoses at the back, inc the one that feeds the HBV

Not a difficult job, but a time comsuming one.

On re-fitting, make sure the manifolds are held on securely with new gaskets and new studs if you like...

While engine is out, is a good time to do a lot of thigs that are usually hard to get it.. you could pop a new timing belt kit and water pump on the donor engine too

Unfortunately I can't offer you an Engine.. because I need the heads off mine for when I get a project Elite...

The g/f is out of town w/e of the 25th, not free other than then.  ::)

Do the EM gaskets, studs.

Should be readily doable in that timescale with a hoist.  Get sleep.

As Theo says :D

You get a bit more power, James is also thinking of using gas which means you can afford high octane petrols for warm up, as Propane is well over 100RON

I am thinking of recon 2.5 heads and 3.0 cams on mine as I want a lot more CR

Print out the method from TIS (I did give you a copy) and tick off each bit as you do it. Worked for me on the Senator.

You make it sound so easy James!  ::)

If I win the lotto, fancy removing the 2.2 lump in mine and shoe horn in a 6.0 V8 from the Monaro? And just for good measure, supercharge it!  :D
