How do i adjust the handbrake on my 2.2 CD
« on: 28 March 2007, 10:06:50 »

How do i adjust the handbrake on my 2.2 CD? Is it a simple job? My lever in the car is coming up to the cup holder and on a hill, well, i'd say its rather near the limit of actually holding the car now  :o  When i know how to do it, i was going to go for about 4 or 5 clicks to be on, would that be ok?

Any help appreciated. Thanks in advance.  :y

Check the maintenance guides, there should be instructions there.  It's a pain though.  Have to get under the center of the car, and take the rear wheels off.  I need to do mine, but need to find 4 jackstands in order to do it.

If it's the same as the 2.0 ecotec, you have to undo the driveshaft, drop it down with a jack. this will give you room to get to the adjuster, unless you can rig up a tool to get around the driveshaft, as the adjuste is above it. another way is to replace the shoes inside the rear break disk drum, as I think the handbreak uses its own pads (not the same pads as the rear disk breaks uses)

There is special mechanism inside rear wheel. It can be adjusted trough special holes in rear discs. If you remove rear wheel, you'll see unused hole in the centre part. If you place it to the top point, you can see regulation star through the hole. All you need is to remove rear wheel and to adjust handbreak shoes with a flat screwdriver. Sorry for my english :), if its not clear, i'll try to find how-to...

Ok, now i'm confused. Is it this simple flat bladed screwdriver from the rear wheel job, or the under car over the drive shaft one??  :-/

IIRC MarksDTM will frown on just adjusting the star on the rear wheels as it puts the system under strain and may well fail.

I have the same car and am on 6 clicks - passed MOT last week and book says should only come in 4-6 clicks so if you're not rolling down a hill, I'd leave it alone  :y

As AA said....read the maintainance guide : http://www.omegaowners.com/forum/YaBB.pl?num=1152564750

This covers a complete strip down, clean, reassemble and adjust which is highly recomended if it hasnt been done in the last two years or if you dont know the history.
