Poorly Auto Box
« on: 28 March 2007, 15:15:37 »

Had my auto box serviced, and the software updated today by the very nice man at "asautocare" in Widnes. When draining the gearbox he found some metal filings in the sump, and thinks the gearbox is on the way out. If the gearbox has to be replaced, is it better to replace with the AR35 box, and is a straight swap with no modifications possible?

Hi Tunnie, no, at the moment it is running just fine, I just got the impression that I was facing impending doom, and sooner rather than later.

You will get some filings in the bottom after a period of time.

With new oil in, it should be fine for some time to come. Don't worry unless it starts to misbehave....

As LB66 as mentioned, don't panic unless it starts to slip.... :y

had mine done about 6 months ago when I had air cooler fitted.
Some fineish filings in the sump - attached to magnet - but then had only done 143K with no oil change according to history - Still running 8-)

asautocare - good isn't he. :y

hmmmm I hope that this doesnt mean that mine may be on the way out too.

When driving at around 30 sometimes it will drop out of gear, esp if I accelerate quickly and then cruise at 30ish.  It doesnt happen at any other speed.  It will stay out of gear for about a few seconds and then the whole car will jump forward and a thud will be heard.  Sometimes after the thud the 'check automatic gearbox' warming comes on the display but not all the time.  If I drop it into 2nd when it slips decellerate and then move the gears up it will recover fine with no warning.

Am I in trouble?
