replacing drivers door lock....
« on: 01 April 2007, 11:10:24 »

right going to have a go at this during the week....

The Haynes book of lies is not very clear.... are pre-facelift / facelift the same? - I can get the door card off, I will then very nervously peel back the plastic membrane.... but what part do i have to replace? Its the 'lazy' lock problem and Haynes talks about removing the handle and such, does all that need to be done??

Anyone got any photos from when they did theirs?

Going to get the parts from the stealer on Monday, but wanted to have a go at starting it now  :)

right just been to the scrappy and got a couple of drivers door lock motors...

Both were of a 98 mini facelift (had side-air bags)

Should these fit my dads 2001 facelift?

One of them did have year marked on them 2000  :-/

Might not fit still.....pot luck.

Once you have the inner membrane pealed back (dont worry to much about it.....it actualy ahs little to do with the airbag sensor as they are accelerometer based), you need to reach in and disconnect the numerou control levers from the door catch assembly, these are held by plastic lips which unclip from the rods and swivel to allow the rod to be removed...

You then undo the 3 torx bolts by the latch assembly and ease the whole thing out (its tricky) disconnecting the wiring as you go.

That is somewhat short hand obviosuly....

I removed the motors from the scrapped cars with TheBoy.... first one was a bodge job, then found another mini-facelift and took that one out, came out much easier  :)

I removed the door handle to see it all better.....

I did mine yesterday tunnie, only thing I messed up is after you've undone the three torx bolts for the latch so you can leve it up and get to the two posi screws that hold the motor on - the bit of coat hanger that goes to the door handle mechanism falls out, just have to make sure you guide it back in before lining it up to put the three torx bolts back in again..

Well worth doing, I've nearly got my Omega completely sorted would you believe! (without tempting fate, /me goes off to touch wood)

Ah yes, as you've probably read I've managed without it and just the forum :)

By the way, my tires - you don't want them.  The inside edges had worn practically through, I can see steel!!  Amazed they didn't all blow out and kill me already, liking the new (aligned) ones, I must say..

Thanks anyway... was discussing that this morning actually don't think they will be the right size, forget what senny ones are.

Looks like i might have to bite the bullet and buy a couple of new ones from ATS down the road....  :'(

(I'll get them to match the online price though)
