Am I being daft?

I have been doing a little fault-finding and I come across what appears to be a sensor of some kind, but it isn't attached to anything. It is hanging by the Crank Sensor. It looks like it would fit where the crank sensor fits. It is a Bosch item and there is a number on it 0261210 19 87032. The number may not be 100% correct, it is a bit dark under there ::)

Any ideas? I've taken a photo which I will post when I download it from the camera.

Probably had a new crank sensor at some point, and the garage left the old one hanging?

If it was the Crank sensor the car wouldn't start.  One of the guys with a parts catalogue will advise soon. :y

as TheBoy said - it's common practice to leave the old crank sensor in place when changing it, as the wiring runs under the oil cooler pipes - so is a pig to remove. In fact TIS actually says to leave the original in place when changing!

From memory the crank sensor on my old omega was made by Bosch ... so I doubt it's anything to worry about. If you do the paperclip test (see here) it will show up what codes the ECU has logged which will help fault-finding ...

Hmmm...paperclip test. That's why I was checking it. I got error code 19. What I don't understand is that it is a diffent part number on it. I suspect the sensor is the reason my revcounter isn't working.

No need for parts catalogue... just type 0261210 on eBay search:

that part number is most likely the Bosch part number rather than Vx.

When I had code 19 on my last omega, it started dying on me for no apparent reason, typically when slowing down - thought it might have been the ICV. But fairly soon after (a week or two) it would then refuse to start once the engine was warm.

So if you get problems with the engine cutting out and/or being difficult to start, it's probably best to change the sensor pronto !!!

If you get a 19 code on a v6, change crank sensor immediately.  It WILL let you down, and you may be miles from home (700miles in my case  :-[)
