Water Leak
« on: 08 April 2007, 13:13:24 »

On the way to work yesterday I got a 'Coolant Level' warning and as I stopped, I saw a gush of steam from the bonnet just in front of the drivers position. When I opened the bonnet I saw water dripping from onto the motor from the back right upper side of the engine where there are two pipes and a valvey looking thing. Of course I can't see exactly where it is coming from but I wondered if there was any known fault in this area.
Also, is it a big job to get that black bulkhead off as it is seriously obstructing the view of theis area.
Yours heatedly
Chris

Sounds like the Heater Bypass Valve mate

£25 ish from the dealer, and 30 mins to fit yourself - easy DIY job

Access is much improved with scuttle off

Boy that was quick. Is this a common fault? FIO the leak is just behind the 2 pipes with the yellow 'FUEL' stickers on.

The HBV is just behind that area - by the bulkhead. It has two pipes going in on one side, and one pipe on the other.

Quite a common fault, but an easy fix.

James
Thank you very much. you've set my mind at rest, so much so that I'll think I'll open a bottle of Easter beer!!!
However, I won't try to fix it myself, as I have no skills at all. I'll take it to the dealer probably on tuesday.
Once again thanks

If you were anywhere near me I'd help, it's really not a hard job...

If having just the HBV done at a dealership/garage... make sure they don't charge you any more than 30 mins labour... 60 mins top whack... if they do, they're having a laff....

Once scuttle is off, which is childs play - 3 clips and 3 hoses.. that's all there is to this job!

Lancs is a big place. If you're near me in Bury though I'll gladly (help you) do it.

To give you a comparison, I got a quote for this job on Saturday at a Vauxhall dealer - £175 inc VAT and parts. I did it my self (first ever task on the Omega) and it cost me £23 .50 for the HBV (from AutoVaux which luckily is based in wakefield where I live).

Good Luck

£100 an hour still gives them an hour & a half to do it. Wth all the practice they should be able to do it in less than an hour! I wonder what TIS suggests!  ::)

0.7 for valve replacement on v6 (0.9 on DBW units), plus bleed and refill coolant.
