Project Elite hardly drives - HELP!!
« on: 13 April 2007, 07:24:02 »

Last night, when it was quiet, I thought I'd fire up the Elite, and just run it along my private dual carraigeway, to make sure everything was OK before the MOT on Thursday.

Fired it up - fine. Foot on brake, Gear in D. Off brake, onto throttle. Hmm.. not going far.. put foot harder on throttle... a bit faster, but not by much.

Stop, put gear in "1". Pull away again - whooosh.... like a rocket.

So it's looking like a gearbox issue! This is probably confirmed by the fact that When I press sport mode, nothing happens - no lights. Kickdown is not working, and neither is Winter mode.

It's like it's in severe limp mode... but no messages on MID.

One thing that did cross my mind.. I did knock the O2 sensor off on the passenger side when fitting the cats back on.. I wondered if it wasn't fully home..however I would get an EML?

Engine is fine.. revs very high.. but something's up with the box.

It must be electrical, it can't have developed a mechanical fault sat on the drive!!

Balls!!! Any advice?

May be wide of the mark, but transmission fail mode reverts to manual control, D is 4th, 3 is 3rd... 1 is 1st.
Was it starting off in 4th gear? You could try running up 1,2,3 to see if it changes on the move?

I tried that.. and yes.. it does change through the gears if I do it manually  :-/

Sounds like its in limp mode......is the cam/crank plugged back in ok....altho i would suspect it would be difficult to start as well if at all.

If it is in limp mode....it should be recording a fault code....anything showing with the paperclip test?

Since sorting the immobiliser prob, the EML has gone off. Only fault codes, are knock sensor, and EML low voltage (no longer present)

Throttle pot ok.....

How do I check?Would that account for no sport mode and limp symptoms?

When running, measures just under 14v

Is there anything I can check, or look for? It sounds almost I've knocked something off but I don't know what :(

Sorry to hear you're having probs James :( It was all going too well!

How about the connector on the side of the gearbox, any chance you're knocked that off? Or dislodged?

Or the selector switch connection......

Get underneath and confirm the simple stuff is all ok i.e. connectors etc....also check the large multiway connectors near the battery to make sure they are all well secured...
