Exhaust back box
« on: 22 March 2007, 22:55:11 »

Ordered a new exhaust system today, both centre pipes and back box. Don't really need them all because the blow out is only in the LH pipe (at the minute anyway) but for reasons I shall keep to myself I'll be changing the whole lot  :-X.
My question is whether or not the twin exit tail pipe fitted to Elites will fit my 2.5? Vx parts say no, and consequently i ordered the single pipe, but I thought I would ask people who know what they're talking about before it comes!
Cheers  :y

Yes tunnie I ordered genuine items. Always fancied the twin tail and thought this would be the ideal opportunity but was denied  :(
Don't really understand how it could be different - don't think centre pieces are different, as you say, or indeed the hangers. I though it was simply an aesthetic thing, to make the 3.0 stand out more, rather than a physical difference.

The centre boxes are same on 2.5/3.0. The rear bumpers are the same.

Vx list different back boxes 'cause they look different but they can be interchanged.

BTW I would definitely recommend changing the whole lot at once. I did my back box only then a centre box failed just a couple of months later and it was a nightmare separating the back box.

Yep, Vx parts dept showing their usual depth of knowledge!  ::)

Without doubt, if you have all the parts, change all at once (remember to get 4 new bolts for the centre sections), it is so much easier.

As the centre pipes are the same, then I see no reason why the 3.0l backbox won't fit the 2.5  (he says, waiting for Marks_DTM to come along and give a perfectly good reason why it won't....)

Did the 2.5 Elite have the twin exit pipe? Or just the 3.0L?

My 1999 Elite 3.0l had a single tail pipe from new, there are records on the history, that the original owner had it changed to a twin, matt black finish.. Besides that the back boxes for 2.5 and 3.0 are interchangable :y

Thank you. I was wondering about that :y

Anyone happen to know the part number for the 3.0 twin exit pipe for the saloons and estates?  This thread is pretty helpful and with the part number on record too then hopefully it saves someone else getting duff information.  (If they do a search first ;-)

Ive got 90572637 as an estate partnumber for the twin pipe exit.
Please correct me if Im wrong!

Yes it will fit....

Back box part numbers vary greatly on model year and saloon/estate....
