Minor Auto Gearbox Problem
« on: 20 April 2007, 03:32:21 »

My Auto box has the latest firmware, and causes no problems when cold or hot, but when it's semi-cold, i.e. after it's been driven then left standing for an hour or two, it hangs onto first gear till about 2K revs.

TB, I think I could do with a Tech II reading on it, how are you fixed?

Hi there AA

I am sure that you know that when cold it stays in 1st to worm up the cat, If this is done by one of the sensors, could this sensor be faulty. Has it only done this after the auto box software upgrade?

That's the point, it doesn't stay in first from cold.

Auto box update about 2 years ago.

My autobox does something similar I think, when semi cold it sometimes seem to hang-on to low gear for more than it should, though I can 'shake it off' by letting-go of the accelerator and then re-applying pressure slowly.

I had this from new, i.e. for over 5 years now, and TheBoy's firmware update made no change to this. Also, when TheBoy had his Tech2 hooked-up to car he would have noticed any transmission fault codes had there been any stored.

When I bought the car I asked around about this, some people said it was common with Drive-by-Wire (not sure why though), and that it also affects other cars not just Omegas. I never did get to the bottom of this…

My does the same AA....Latest software for the g/b ecu stoppped it hanging about in 1st when cold.

But yesterday for ie.....used the omega in the morning (fine then) then took a few hours off and went out again at 6pm.....went up my road to turn round.....gave it a little blat....not hard.....didnt change out of 1st until 5k revs.....it would have changed a lot sooner if it had been fully warmed up or stone cold.

My cheapo Tech II does not read the gearbox, what mod are you talking about.

No, I'm not passing, I would have to make a special trip, not a problem, to suit yourself.

No PM sent to MJ ;).  It would appear the fix to get this function working is not ready yet. Sorry.

On a serious note, I think we can conclude that this problem only affects post-2001 facelifts..? This will explain why I was told (rightly or wrongly) that it is linked to the Drive-by-Wire. And also that it is not affected by the autobox firmware update...

I have another small anomaly which may be a 'post-2001 facelift' issue - my rev meter does not resigner between 1500 and 2000... it just hops up or down straight from 1500 to 2000, instead of moving progressively. The engine sound fine, so it is not real.... this does not occur at any other part of the rev meter. Also, when the car was new Vx changed the instrument panel under warranty, but I had this problem from new and the problem persisted after the swap, so it is not an instrument panel issue. Anyone else noticed this?
