been offerd multispoke alloys off a 2lt meega 195 55 15 and my 3lt is 205 55 15 will this make a big diff to power handling or will it just chew the tyers up every month need some alloys as got two blow outs and shag them and running on two steel two alloy looks daft any help greatly welcome thanks

195 55 15 will have smaller diameter than 205 55 15, so the car will be 'tilting' either forwards or backwards depending on where the smaller wheels will go... Also, if you fit the smaller wheels in the back then the car will accelerate better though will have lower top speed, and the speedo will show wrong speed. And last some here say that changing wheel/tyre size can affect the validity of your insurance. Hope this helps...

Mark, Surely the external diameter will be the same (and actually the tyres are the same profile anyway - just different width).

Nemesis,  I agree you could have insurance problems if all goes tits up at some point if you put underspecced tyres on your car.   But you might be able to get the 205 tyres on the same wheels - talk to a decent tyre dealer (not one in a blue boiler suit..)

Errr... no. The '55' signifies the height of the tyre side wall as percentage of the width (in mm). So the 195 55 type will have a side wall of 107.25mm, and a total radius of: 381 mm (15") + 2x107.25 = 595.5 mm, while the 205 55 tyre will have a radius of: 381 mm (15") + 2x140.25 = 661.5 mm.

I reckon 205's will go on the rims that the 195's are on anyway. They're probably both 15x7 rims at a guess so you could put some 205's on those rims and use them.

Mixing the two on the same axle is not acceptable but the 195's on the front and 205's on the rear would probably be ok. You may well find that the speed rating of the 195's is not up to spec for the V6 and, of course, you have deviated from the manufacturer's specified tyre sizes. Whilst for all practical purposes this won't be a problem an insurance company might well take a different view in the event of an accident.

Having different profile tyres front and rear - i.e. different circumference's between tyres will also screw up the ABS ECU. Learnt this one after a visit to Kwikphut a couple of years back.

Ahh, This is true. Didn't think about the ABS. In that case I would get 205 tyres fitted to those alloys.

Best thing to do is not put different size tyres on any car best to stick with the 205 55 15's CHANGE THE TYRES.
