Hi,

After giving my v6 a bit of a thrashing the engine is rattly , like a tappet noise.

Any way to cure it other than replacing the tappets?

More regular oil changes. Hopefully you are not changing at the recommended 10k

My own 2.5 does his when cold but after a minute or so goes quiet.... just changed the oil and it still does it.

I have read somewhere this is reletively normal.

However is your is doing it when warm it may be signs of problem.

Someone will pip up in a minute with there opinion and hopefully a solution for you.

If only does when cold, check the exhaust manifold and its gasket...

Well only just bought it , so ill try an oil change. ANy recommendation for the oil? , semi synthetic or full? , thicker oil to quiten it or not?

Vauxhall's own semi synth, but quite expensive if you don't have access to Trade Club

All i get when from cold is a little rattle then quiet (oil pump probably needs replacing) , its quite as a mouse when warm its only when ive given it a good thrashing down the road that it rattles

Wouldnt necessarily blame the oil pump here - on most engines this is often the best lubricated bit....

That's all the bloody pot holes around here!!!

Try an oil and filter change, Ask for trade discount at Greenhous's, blag it son, blag it!!  Shelton Auto Spares (Above Signal Radio)also occasionally sell VX semi / synth oil, less than a tenner............

Get that cam belt changed too, if you've got no service history or receipts.
