lpg questions
« on: 29 April 2007, 23:01:50 »

does anyone on here know about lpg systems?

I have 2 problems:

1.  During changeover to gas, the car now pauses considerably. It used to only feel like an auto `box change. It now seems to hold back for a couple of seconds as it changes fuels.
2.  The lpg guage no longer works. Is there an eay way to free off the `sensor` at all? It shows full all the time, as if it is stuck.

The system is a multipoint zavoli if that helps.....

Thanks in advance...

The only thing I know about LPG is that the tosser who fitted to my current project should be skinned alive and baked in the sun for a month until he is sorry! Dangerous, badly fitted, wrongly plumbed, badly wired, madly routed, upside down, inside out and a complete and utter shambles.

After I have re-designed the whole thing and put it back together it should be a damned nice system.

Oh, and gas goes in a big tank thing.

SOunds like low pressure by the injectors, if not filter, could it be a dented pipe?

Sounds like what i had with mine and it got worse and worse to the point of not flicking over the light turned green but it would die.

I tracked it to the middle solenoid valve with the filter in it on mine the valve was not opening correctly in the end it was not opening at all.

The LPG gauge's are rubbish I normally just go on mileage and ignore the gauge.

Hey what about me...  :'(

Anyhow, the first thing I would check is for any damage to the fuel line from the rear of the car up to the front, as already mentioned!  The fuel pipe should (as LPGA specify) run underneath the floor on the (driver’s side on mine)  You might find that the pipe will follow the existing fuel pipes and should surface inside the drivers front wing, so check for any damage here.  Check for loose connections into the evaporator/gas regulator/injectors.  Secondly I would have though (as already mentioned) a solenoid may have failed??  What are the voltages at the solenoids?  I hear a loud click from the tank solenoid when warmed up and then another click on the pressure reducer solenoid when dropping past 1750 rpm.  2 click and i'm cooking on gas!!  :y

I recall that I was advised by an LPGA that if problems like this do occur and are not resolved by the above... then maybe the fuel pickup mechanism in the tank in clogged.  Then the only way to resolve this is to strip and clean out tank.

How old is the installation?

Check all the wiring at the tank end - could be a broken join for the gauge

Dont think it will be filter or low pressure....as surely it will be hesitant when flooring it.....ie..get the revs up high...and go for it....if it does then i dont think low pressure will cause the prob

It sounds a bit like mine.....misses badly when first changing to lpg on low revs.....rev it and its ok....im suspecting the coil pack on mine not giving a good enough spark or dis pack in your case

Been there, done that!  I had this problem at 150k and was fixed with a £30 set of HT leads from Halfrauds.  Think your HT setup is different on a 2.2 though...???

sorry about not replying any earlier - i've been out all day.....

thanks for all of your suggestions
i will check the gas pipes are not damaged in any way, as the car was involved in an accident (not my fault!)

I think it may be the brass connector that is located after the filter, just before it gets to the injectors.
It has two wires running to it which came off, and i tried to solder back on - but maybe i have done it wrong.

what exactly does this connector do?  (if anyone can follow what i mean without seeing it!)

thanks
