Engine managemant light has just come on
« on: 28 May 2007, 13:56:35 »

I was just driving home from work and the engine management light has just come on. I was driving round a corner then the omega sort of jerked/hesertated very quickly then the light came on.
I got home and turned the car off the turned it on again and the light went off like normal.
Any idea whats going on?

This will sound very stupid but what is the paper clip test and how do you do it?

I've heard other people talk about it

When I first got my car a few weeks ago, the orange engine light came on then sometimes stayed off then stayed on all the time, the paper clip test revealed fault 38 ( oxygen sensor voltage fault) naturally I was thinking oh sugar I will have to replace it but it was tight as *uck. then a few days later i was under the car & I unplugged the black connector attaching it to the loom & found 1 pin in the male part of the plug was pushed  in (not level with other pins) I pushed the cable going to that pin back in the plug, then plugged it back together, started up & no more light staying on, its been ok for over a week now. So sometimes the fault could be a connection problem ! worth checking before replacing expensive sensors, oh & I got £100 knocked off the sale price cause the light was on  ;D
