Budget tyres-Nexens a no-no
« on: 21 August 2007, 18:04:13 »

I replaced my rear tyres about four monthe ago with Nexens. I was quite pleased with them and told other forum members (Theo, I seem to remember) that they were OK. Yesterday I was coming off a roundabout in wet weather, I was doing about 35mph in third and floored it. I lost the back end completely. Wifey sh*t herself and afterwards commented that, if I hadn't been such an experienced driver, it could have been nasty. Bridgestone going on before winter sets in. :o

On a lighter note, I asked aforesaid Wifey what she would have done. She made no bones about it---"Closed my eyes until the car stopped moving"

Kinnell :'(

TC can only do so much. It is supposed to help with grip when you are travelling forwards, not sideways ;D

Is that what I bought?  Or what I replaced?  Can't remember.

What I have seems pretty good, even got me through the floods.  Only real criticism is the tall tread blocks.  OTOH, this is the first RWD car I've had in ages that handles for diddley so I take the odd pucker moment for granted.  The ones I took off were slick as whale snot in the wet.

Hi Theo. These would probably be OK in 98% of situations encountered. But I need to know that my tyres are 99.9% reliable, otherwise I'll be backing off instead of teaching those hot hatches a thing or two, and we cant have that, can we? [smiley=evil.gif]

Wasn't going to replace until winter due to loads of tread but with this weather I think i might go to my old favs Pirelli p6000. Any one any veiws of this tyre car combi? :)

Yeah, it's still RWD with a lot of rear camber.  It's pretty good, but if you want 99% security get AWD.

i used to run my miggy on Khumos, they were always a more expensive budget tyre and i could get the miggy to drift nicely round roundabouts, the missus got used to it and never batted an eyelid when we were sideways  ;D ;D ;D

However they would wear down after 10000 miles and were costing £75 a corner so after 2 complete sets in just over 6 months i changed to dunlops, a lot tougher tyer that wears a lot better, has excellent grip and only a moderate amount of road noise, the downside is the miggy doesn't do the whole sideways thing as much or as well  >:(
