Sounds like a job for the garage... I am in Kingswood.  :y

Without the right tools etc yes I guess so.  It ought to be removable without damage to the centre pipes with patience, just hope that your garage will do that.  If the centre pipes are in poor condition though they may not be very inclined to fiddle with it...

Yes, I guess it has had a 3.0 tailpipe fitted by a previous owner. if there will be no power loss I will probably go for the single tailpipe to save money...

Anyone know the cheapest online place?

BYPARTSBY is £45.91 including deliver and VAT.. any others?

Thanks

Dean
does anybody have the full url for bypartsby as all i get from a google search is error403 forbidden.

Well I have the car booked in for the back box and MOT on the 31st..

Went out today to give it a second squirt of WD40...got tempted so used a spanner on one of the clamps...snap - bolt sheared off...

one of the clamps was rusted straight through and i managed to pursuade that one off in about 2 minutes.

The second took a bit of banging with an hammer and that came off as well...

So now i have NO CLAMPS at all... managed to soak it with WD40

Hopefully if i keep soaking it by the 31st it will come off easy for the garage.

Looking at my pictures... its tempting to try cutting it off...do you all think, if i cut the clamps it would seperate or will it be rusted together??

As has already been said - it would be far better to part with your £25 than attempt this.  I know from experience - thought I could do the job but had to admit defeat in the end. :-[

I will never attempt another exhaust again!!

Aw, just noticed this on a re-read of the post.  Bad luck yours didnt work out X25XE, sorry to hear that.  Was it the cat bolt drilling that was the stumbling block?

Good luck with it Dean - running it around without the clamp bolts may possibly help it vibrate loose if you are lucky.  (If it does come loose its not likely to fall off due to the location of the back box rubber hangers.)  Its probably not going to come loose though.  If you felt keen you could clean up the loose and flaky rust from the join area so as to get more penetrating oil in.

The centre pipes do look pretty corroded to the back box...  Might be worth asking the garage not to go ahead with anything too drastic so that you have time to get hold of more exhaust parts if needed - otherwise you may end up paying top whack for the additional bits if you suddenly need them urgently just to continue driving.  Just an idea.  Also posted a suggestion on your other thread about paint.

I was thinking i might go ahead and order the two centre sections just in case, I can get them from the same ebay guy at £71 the pair including delivery...

Then if the garage can't get the back box off without damaging the centre sections i have the cheaper ones there as you suggested.

If i dont need them i can put them back on ebay or here... and get just about the same back for them.

Had the exhaust done... no problems they said. cost £25 for the work

I am thinking the daily spray of WD40 might have helped the joint... :y

The replacement sounds ok, not excessively noisy

If it lasts a couple of years then its worth the cash.

Great news Dean, much better outcome than I expected.  Result!   8-)
