Locking wheel nut key replacement
« on: 01 June 2007, 20:40:47 »

Are these available and if so where from?

Had a couple of new tyres put on last week and when the garage gave me the key back for the nuts i just stuck it in my pocket without thinking and i now can't find it  >:(

If i can't get one looks like i'll have to ruin a few more sockets to get the nuts off the car and then replace them with regular wheel nuts, can't really see anyone wanting to pinch my lovely kerbed and chipped alloys anyway :)

If you still have the original LWN box then the number is in there. If not then you will have to get them off some how....... If you can take a picture of the locking wheel nut and post on here then I might be able to help if not someone on here may be able too...

if its facelift with original GLS wheels then ebay will have some, if its the 3 pronged key they're usually the same

i asked VX and they told me they were different and that it would cost £25 to replace, but i got one off ebay for £15 (with a brand new set of lock nuts, otherwise i wouldnt have bought it) and it's the same fit.

see ebay item number 250122288127 for details

To get them off you need a socket that is just too small and wallop it with a big hammer, it may split and won't be any use again but will do the job - buy some cheapo's from your local market and keep your good ones. :y

so it's not the one for the standard GLS alloy then? if you end up destroying the nuts using the socket method, then your original key will turn up in an obvious place, somewhere you swore you'd looked!! mine did!!

Just a thought.....If you have breakdown cover RAC/AA ect then they should have a universal locking wheel nut remover, ive had to call them in the past and they normally work.

I say normally as when i swapped the wheels off the estate to the saloon i found id lost the locking wheel nut so called the AA who in there wisdom sent out 3rd party contractor who had no such tool.....he destroyed three sockets removing the locking nuts whilst i sat watching drinking a lovely cuppa coffee. :y
