Happy ending for me and my girlfriend's x20xev-powered beauty...
Took it back to the garage that fitted the replacement CTS. Gave them an essay detailing the current problems and recent history. They phoned me a couple of hours later to say "it's gonna be a couple of hours labour for the diagnostics, will that be OK?" I replied, "yep, go ahead" cos TBH it's been doing my head in lately.
Phoned me at about 3 this afternoon to say it's all fixed now, and under warranty!
They said that the CTS they fitted a couple of weeks back must have been faulty. I even argued with them briefly! I said that all I'd asked for was a replacement sensor, and that they'd told me that there was still a fault code showing after this, and did I want them to do further diagnostics? I'd said no, and only this Sunday discovered the root cause of the problem as intermittent shorts between CTS wiring and injector wiring(!). So the sensor they fitted was quite possibly destroyed almost immediately after they fitted it, but may have been fine when it went in.
Anyway, they weren't having any of it, and presented me with a bill for £0.00
Only downside is, after all the investment in time and mental energy (and that of you guys, thanks) I now feel the fairly urgent need to get the cambelt replaced, in order to protect this investment. My best info on the subject suggests it was at least 4 years since the last change...Would you recommend waterpump replacement at the same time? They suggested this as an extra £60 on top of £260 for the belt change. I'm inclined to say "go for it, please". Is this to be expected at 136 000 miles? Can't see much sense in not doing it TBH, we're hoping to keep the car for some time, as the bodywork etc's all good.
Thanks for reading another of Abiton's essays. Might be online a bit less now. Touch wood.
