Hi guys

Throw myself to you mercy yet again!!

Just completed the oil cooler change and several flushes 1 with washing powder that are now clear. Problem that now occurs is that althought the temperature is within normal limits and when sat in traffic temp increases but then cools when fans cut in so all normal there, but when I stop the coolant system (pipes and header tank are boiling making lots of bubbling noises and pipes are very hot and solid. I have had to replace 2 pipes since oil cooler due to splits but does not appear to be any further leaks, have looked through a few threads on here could it be my HBV gone or something more sinister?

Well if it definitely was the oil cooler (which you will know if you replaced the oil cooler) you probably still have a blockage in your coolant system.

By all reports it's hell to flush the system.

The "Pope method" discovered by a forum member called Andy Pope (I think) involved degreaser instead of antifreeze and was very successful.

Hang on though - don't rush into anything.

When you replace the coolant it can take a few journeys to get all the air out. I normally keep some water in the boot for a week or so.

i had a simular noise on my 2ltr at the header tank when stopped then a few weeks later the hbv went, is the car loosing any coolant mine would only loose a small amount and there was a smell off hot coolant when you got out the car but couldnt see any trace of a leak under the car

That is most likely air in the system.

I did an oil cooler today, and on the second flush got a heck of an airlock!  

On the 3rd flush I allowed the car to get well up to temperature with the coolant cap off and allowed it to force the air out (mini eruption).

Then just put cap back on and took it for a quick run.

A tip, flush through a couple of times with Machine Mart Traffic Film Remover.
It is £5 for 5 litres.
Drain coolant. fill with this stuff, run up to temperature to get air out, then drive for 10 miles or so.
Allow to cool, drain, flush thoroughly and then see how you get on.
