Cam belt Kit part No. query
« on: 13 June 2007, 16:09:11 »

Hi

I've ordered a Cam belt kit from my local dealer with the part number 93188674

I've been watching the excellent DVD about changing the cam belt and it mentions the early backing plate with tensioner having a EB and the later ones 01 marking.

Just checked mine and its got an EB marking, this is supposed to be for a 3.2 2003 Elite Estate.

Does anyone know if this is correct ? I've got a feeling they have supplied the wrong one.

As far as I know - EB went out around 1998

Sounds like you have the wrong backplate..

3.2 should be 01.

I believe, hopefully someone can confirm, you can put the new pulleys on existing backplate...

I'm sure I've heard Mark say this is possible...

I got back to the Vx dealer and he's confirmed its the wrong cam belt kit, he's now ordered the correct one for my car.

This time I'll check before I leave the Dealer.

Thanks for your help.

I confirm that. My 1998 2.5 was just a few digits on the engine number before the change.  Mine was EB.

Wasn't there a third version for the very latest cars?

Earliest was D, followed by EB, followed by 01

Just picked up the replacement kit, the backing plate has 6B on it ?

I'm assured its the right one, it does look very different from the other one.

Part number for this one is 93172354

the backplate is bigger for the 2.6 & 3.2's, only the top roller (on the left of the tensioner plate) is eccentric and therefore adjustable, unlike on the 2.5 & 3.0's where the lower roller is adjustable too ... the kit is different, from engine number 08578512 it's the one you've given (93172354)
