Steering Box Question
« on: 24 June 2007, 11:43:01 »

Hiya Chaps

After Speaking To James last weekend he said that the knock in my Steering Is likely to be my Steering Box

Has Anyone changed One ? if so how hard is it ?

Can anyone with a Haynes manual scan in the section on removing a steering box just so i can see how much of a pig of a job it might be if i decided to go that route. I dont want to buy a Haynes manual as everyone says the book is rubbish

The book is worth having, as it is a useful guide still, even if a bit naff in places.  Pick up a cheapy of ebay for around a fiver, as £20 from Halfords is a tad dear...

No idea if it covers steering box though...

There is also an adjustment on the steering box. If you haven't already tried it it might be worth a go before you change it.

Fairly sure Haynes doesn't cover the steering box, but don't quote me on that.

If youve got a Halfords Trade card it comes down to £12 or £14 (carnt remember  :-[ )

Where you going to the Tidworth meet Craig? If so I could get you one and bring it with me  :y

Yes try the above first. i had knocking and a lot of play in my rack - adjusted the nut on the box and it sorted me right out.
someone else will tell you i'm sure-but IIRC its a 18mm nut with a torx bolt in the middle. but only adjust 1/16th of a turn at a time.
