You sure it has a spark?

Immediate thought is crank sensor, but that will not allow a spark.

Immobiliser is unlikely but possible.

The EM light will flash when you crank it if it is immobiliser related.

I know this may sound silly, but have you tried disconnecting the battery for an hour or so, then trying again?

tried disconnecting the battery this morning ,left for three hours, reconnect, no difference.the reason i ask about the immobiliser is that  i once had a 2.5 elite which had exactly the same problem, you would turn the key, the engine would turn over, but not fire, and i got round it by locking and unlocking the doors on the key fob whilst the key was in the ignition a couple of times.this would cure it for 6 months at a time.on the 2.5 just like this one the eml light would not light up whilst cranking

possibly - it will turn over quick if so - does it seem to turn over at normal rate?

And have you a spare key and fob to try ?Does verything else seem ok - ie lights, windows, stereo..

Someone had a similiar problem I think and it was either the fuel pump or injector relay.

Unlikely if there is fuel flowing and no error code.  You can check though by taking each plug out in turn and cranking then sniff to see if there is fuel getting into the pots.

Have you taken off the fuel pipes to see the fuel flowing?

There are a few bum steers in this thread so lets clear those up first...

1) The immobiliser stops the spark and fuel.......
2) The cranks sensor wll also stop the spark and fuel
3) The cam sensor will not stop the car starting (and I am yet to see one fail on a V6!)

You say you have checked the cambelt.....have you checked the timing of the belt to be sure its not jumped a few teeth.....when was the belt AND tensioners/idlers last changed.

I would also check out the two relays in the engine bay fuse box to......purple ones at the back.

For info, how was the spark checked because if it was just by pulling a lead off then its a meaningless test, it needs to be done with test plugs as this is the only way you can be sure that enough HT is being generated to cause spark within a pressurised cylinder (it takes about 1 tenth of the voltage to jump a plug gap at atmosperic pressure)......beware also that doing a test without test plugs can bugger your coil pack as it cuases much higher secondary coil currents.

timing belt  and tensioners done approx 15 miles ago,im curious about the spark test but is it possible for the coil pack to fail completely? ie all six cylinders at once (i already checked the multiplug on the dis pack when i changed the crank sensor
