Multi Rams Not Working
« on: 16 June 2007, 15:00:29 »

Unless i have this wrong there are two - and both will physically move with throttle.

Ive revved 2.5v6 with Mrs Markie watching both multi rams and they dont move. Gone way through the rev range right up to 5000k !!!! :o Nada

I can get them to move freely by hand ad hear / feel / and with vacumes off see its opening,

So could this be my issue with my lumpy idle low down.....or a red herring.

Thoughts?

May be easier with you blipping throttle from throttle body whilst watch. Quick blip should do it.

Follow vac hose from front vac tank to main vac host and at convenient place to undo with engine off - you should hear a hiss...

just come in for a cuppa - its miserable outside - ive blipped it from accelerator cable - and not a thing happens. Tried it on mv6 and can see it move and open at 4000 revs but it aint working on the estate.

Started to remove and inspect multi rams and i have established two of the wires go into a box at the bottom of the intake system at the front - and one of them is snapped off. So in the process of epoxying it and will rebuild. Everything else seems fine connection wise.

Hope fully Mr Bleeding multi ram will move his backsde upon rebuild  >:(

A poor vacuum will cause tickover issues.

To get the multlirams to work properly, blip the throttle HARD and they should move.
As Jaime said, do it by hand, so much easier. :)

Going to try a scrappy tomorow - anyone know what that part above is called? and its retail price....in case i need to go to vx

Similar prob that I hoped to fix at the Lakes meet on mine, Markie.  You can use a tank obtained from the same place on a scrapper but M_DTM told me to get the one from behind the pollen filter instead.  Exactly the same but generally less damaged or liable for cracks etc as its otherwise out of the way of hands/fingers when maintaining the front of the engine.

Its bonded on, apparently, but straightforwardish to remove.

Indeed that is the vac tank and breaking that connector is both common and not a good thing!

No multiram, and limited vacuum.

Good luck on finding an intact one.

I have just sorted mine out,  a new box from autovaux was 13.97 plus vat and 2.50 postage. fitted it saturady and car is lovely. mine ran fine before as there were no vacuum leaks but someone had broken off the larger pipe and stuck it back on but it was blocked and didn't work. they have a oneway valve inside to store vacuum so I would go for a new one as they are cheap enough. it is the same box as the one by the pollen filter and you can swap to try it out. early cars had just one box by the heater and the multiram pipe was teed off it.

car is much more fun to drive! :)

If the one way valve fails, you can use one from an aquatic shop ;)
