Mrs Jv6CDX and I spent a long time last night, by means of lights, (!) changing the crankseal and re-fitting the cambelt kit and front end bits. Thankfully she started fine, so I'm feeling pleased I've sucesfully done a crank seal.

The really bad part - is that although it had a tiny tiny leak, it wasn't the crank seal that was leaking at all.

It is the upper-sump to block joint, that's leaking oil, down by the alternator. I cleaned off the oil, and when I rev the engine, I can see oil seeping out of here. At least, I presume it's the seal that's gone.

I've heard VERY nasty stories about changing the upper sump gasket, and I no longer have any access to engine supporting gear. Can anyone tell me the steps involved, in changing this gasket?

I'll admit to feeling a little disheartened though, especially as it's raining...

It's like a pin-hole leak - I wonder if it could somehow be patched

I think Winns do a oil stop leak, which basically softens the gaskets a little making them more supple again, hence stopping the leak.
I haven't tried it personally so i don't know how true it is.
