Pollen filter
« on: 05 July 2007, 23:57:31 »

I have seen it somewhere in the forum about a carbon pollen filter when climate control is fitted. I have asked my local Vauxhall dealer, parts dept, about this and they tell me there is only one filter which is a paper type. The guy who looks after my car, he is a mechanic at the same dealership, agrees with the parts dept. that there is only one pollen filter. I am confused. Can anybody tell me the part number for the carbon filter. Thanks Alan

Hi,

I bought it yesterday (in Spain, but if it's available here, it must be there too).

it depends on if your omega is a facelift model or not. If not then it's a white coloured filter, if facelift they use an activated charcoal (grey coloured) one, this is required if you use the automatic air recirculation feature. If you don't then you can get away with the (cheaper) non-activated charcoal one.916

cheapo (older) filter is P/N 93182438 (or maybe 90510338)
activated charcoal type is P/N 93165208 (which supersedes 9162646)

Why do dealers do this.....it really does not fill you full of confidence...

Ok

Standard Pollen filter 93182438
Carbon filter 93165208

The carbon filter is primarily used on the facelift cars as its required to get good operation from the pollution sensor but, can be retrofitted to the earlier models (as it does help with some smells)

So next time you go into the dealer, give them the info and lean over the counter, look them directly in the eye whilst smiling politely and whisper gently.....'muppet'

Its not carbon for climate cars, but for facelifts (which are all climate). Prefacelift climates are supposed to have the normal white one, but can run the carbon one. The carbon pollen filter, as well as blocking pollen etc, does seem to reduce fume smell in cabin.

So summary:
If you have a prefacelift (climate or not)
93182438 £12+VAT retail, coloured white
or
93165208 £15+VAT retail, coloured grey

If you have a facelift (all are climate)
93165208 £15+VAT retail, coloured grey

Thanks very much. My car is the facelift model, I have just rung my local dealer and would you beleive it they don't stock that part number filter. I explained what it was and the reply was, " we always supply the white coloured filter". Now going to ring around motor factors to see if they are more helpful. Alan ::) ::)

I believe its dealer only - some of the factors show a standard white one for facelifts as well.

Luton is Evans Halshaw - ask them to check their other branches, and get it in, or order it...

Hehe, the parts manager at my Vx dealer also said the same 'only one filter sir', until I showed him the charcoal type in the flesh and told him that all facelift needed it, he seems genuinely concerned and said he will talk to the service guys... and since then they actually stock both types!

And. another Vx dealership fitted the non-charcoal one on my facelift during a service - easily soppted based on the P/N in the bill.

Also - there is a theory (which I made up... ) that fitting the old non-charcoal filter on a facelift will confuse the air quality sensor which in turn will cause erratic operation of the (too-sophisticated-for-it-own-good) Climate Control system...
