Could someone help in this department.
I can't remember what the year is for the tech 2 was used from (on the car) is it from 94-03 or is it less?

TB is best to commet, Omega wise its 1994 onwards, although it could not read the engine ECU i think  :-/

1996/7 it could read everything

waite so any tech2 will read includeing the cheapos will read the gearbox data etc etc with the right software ??

Software is the thing. Most of the pseudo Tech 2's are based on ELM chips, will communicate with the car ECU, but its knowing what questions to ask. There are a standard set of responses that each manufacturer is required to adhere to, but a lot of 'manufacturer specific' queries. The cheap Pseudo Tech 2's tend to have free/shareware software with them that can give the standard responses, but they are not written with Vaux in mind, so its very unlikely that you will be able to cmmunicate with the gearbox ECU. There are a couple of russian systems out there, http://www.opel-scanner.com/opelscanner.html  that seem able to comunicate with a lot of the car functions, I suspect the programmers have access to a real tech 2 and have monitored the responses. The USA are moving forward here, it seems there is a law that allows the manufacture of alternative programming systems so that small garages over there can reprogram ECU's without buying an expensive Tech 2. For example http://www.drewtech.com/products/mongoosevpw.html . It would be nice if it works, it would have saved me several hundred £ recently if I had access to one but......

see now if u can gaurntee it will run on my car then i would buy one but i dont want to spend that much if i am not able to use it :(
also i know thats the problem if anybody knew about any spefic software out ther to use i remember i brought a cheap obd 2 device that didnt work but works fine on my bros alfa remind to get it back off him the tight git needs to buy his own sutff lol
i really want something that will help me diagnose problems instantly if you get my drift i was stuck with my omega for 3 to 4 months workin out why it stalled all the while
what i mean is i dont want to spend £399 quid on a £200 car if its not going to help me since ive owned the car ive spent moren than shy of 500 getting it right

bassically what i need is something that will work and if it is this product http://www.ukobd.co.uk/gstore/store/g_viewItem.asp?idProduct=82 il be sure to buy it and this all came about as i know 1994 cars are not obd2 compliant only obd aldl compliant and as i said in a diffrent thread that would i be able to get a gearbox update for it

Yes looks interesting doesn't it. However if you look closely, it looks very much like the russian one I mentioned, so they are poss the distributers. I think 2 OOF members have them. Just to confuse things a bit more, take a look at http://opel-scan.com/index.html . It also looks very similar in function, they both use a custom reader which I think uses an Atmel chip, not the ELM. I wonder exactly who wrote what software ?. Also this last one is priced at $165, which would make it just about £100 once postage is in. The previously mentioned russian one also has an option to buy direct, so there might be a good deal there. As I say I am very tempted, I had to replace my ECU and reader and the garage bill would have paid for it, but time was against me.

For what it's worth, I spotted this on their own forum:
  • Plus side: You can sent raw commands to the vehicle and get back raw results.  It's small.
  • Negative side: It's a pain to decode emissions readyness rest result, and to get that you got to send a custom command.  (Good thing I've also obtained a ScanTool for next to nothing that is frendlier.)

if it is aldl i have a chematic for the connection device and i can test it now if it is the software that i need anybody know where i can get it from i can create the aldl connectors for 15 quid but again nobody has cleared it up b4 if i can create it i would post links on createing one for ones self but as i say no ones said what it is i know 100% its not obd2 its a pre obd system basically all the aldl connect does is one side is the wrong voltage for the serial port and it adjusts it thats all it does :D so if u say its aldl il test it and build one and report back to what i find

also il make into a usb version i have most of the stuff just a few parts need ordering and i can get testing it str8 away if some one can say it is an aldl system

Tech2 officially does 97 onwards. If the same ECU/configuration/software is in an earlier car as what existed in 1997, the Tech2 can do it.  For example, it could do virtually everything on Tunnies 1994 3.0l Elite except IR remote locking....

Generic OBDII readers will only work on DBW engines - ie 2.2/2.6/3.2
