Tyres (again)
« on: 10 July 2007, 15:11:12 »

Just failed the MOT this morning on one of the front tyres.  That's not too surprising - since they seem to be running on the inside edges until I manage to arrange a long-overdue trip to WIM.

But I got a warning on the other 3 too!  I only put these on back in Feb(ish) - and I've done less than 10K since then.  Is this normal?  Can anyone recommend a more hard-wearing tyre?  I'll be paying more in rubber than petrol at this rate!   :o

The tyres that have only done 10k - are they worn evenly?

10k shouldn't have worn them down to warning levels. Either the tester is being mega cautious and assuming that they won't last the 20k you may well do before the next test, or something is causing an abnormal rate of wear.

It's worth getting a tread depth gauge to keep on top of tyre wear, and to spot early on if a tyre is wearing unevenly.

I think your long overdue trip to WIM needs to be brought forward, chances are the tyres you're using will last longer and you wont need harder wearing ones

Visit WIM, he will get tyre wear even.  If, even with even tyre wear, you are still wiping them out quickly, then look at alternative brands...
