Well took it in today but failed   heres what the report said :

 front headlamp washer n/s damaged to excess (1 nozzle missing)
 steering play (suspect rack)
 o/r wheel bearing play
 Blowing downpipe (again)
 
I'm sure i've read on here that omegas dont have racks? Flippin downpipe keeps leaking at the manifold connector so time for another gasket. Only thing concerning me is the rear bearing, is it easy to fix?

 Aparrently HID headlamps have to have a fully working washer system.... or at least thats what he said  :-/ wouldnt mind, but they are hard to get hold of to replace without going to the stealers.

Thats not the case.....I have just checked the MOT manual and headlight washer function is NOT a reason for failure.

Ask him to provide details of the section of the MOT manual which describes the requirement and the code for the rejection.

It shouldn't be anything more than an advisory.

There is no rack, check the track rod ends and idler arm.

 

o/r wheel bearing play)?

Bit of a bugger and a rare failure on an omega, not easy to change as the bearing needs to be pressed out.

 

Blowing downpipe (again)

Are you using the genuine gaskets or the aftermarket composite ones.......are the front pipes easy or hard to locate on the manifold dowels?

Headlight washer sorted now anyway - suppose I would have got a new one for it at some point, so no harm done there but was a b*gger to swap over....

Downpipe gasket was first done at masterfit, that failed, so took it to kwik-fit last time and has failed again - the whole o/s exhaust is brand new from manifold to backbox, but is not GM (place I got the car from fitted it before I bought it) im thinking the connections are not flush? I cant reach up far enough to change the gasket myself, car would only be up on stands, and I have no tool long enough to reach up to the bolts, from engine its imposible to get round to em.

Steering - ordered a genuine idler arm from vaux.. as usual non in stock so gotta wait   failing that, i'll replace both wishbones

 Oh - I didnt mention, but I got an advisory on rusted rear break pipes - sounds expensive?

first 2 MOT`s of the MV6 and it only had one headlamp washer nozzle. Never failed or even noted as an advisory.

Steering - ordered a genuine idler arm from vaux.. as usual non in stock so gotta wait   failing that, i'll replace both wishbones)

Get under there and grease the brake pipes, joins etc up well

Thanks for the advice MDTM, got a quote of £110 including parts for the wheel bearing - not too bad, the idler arm was only £14 more than the ebay one, just thought the genuine one would last a bit longer?
 As for the break pipes, would scrubbing em down and painting with anti corrosion paint be better than grease or would you just keep greasing em up?
 Gonna get the gasket on the down pipe done again at masterfit when I pick up the idler arm, and if it goes again, I'll buy a genuine exhaust - I think it'lll work out cheaper in the long run

I thought masterfit only did set price servicing? So this may be at standard dealer rates...

where did you get the M.O.T done ,i find kwikshit,i mine kiwkfit are a bloody rip off and tand to make money out of M.O.T.S and half the time do not have a clue and bugger your car up rip off company,i would try a reliable independent garage

Got the MOT done at an MOT specific garage near the mother-in-laws, usually they are pretty good, past a few of my past bangers no probs.
 The manifold gasket cost me a few pennies over £34 but it was only downpipe, I had to buy both sides even though I only used one side  :-/
