misfire and hesitation under load
« on: 14 July 2007, 17:03:28 »

When my car is under load it seems to misfire and hesitate then off she goes when the revs get up.

I took the earier accessable left two plugs out today and noticed there is oil around them...

Having done a bit of research on here would you say its the camcover gaskets? leaking oil onto the plugs thats causing this problem?

Looks like it mate, a new set of plugs would be a good idea too.
Are your leads ok as the oil can fry em.

Mine were rather stiff but I managed to wind em out with the ratchet, I'm sure one of the more knowledgable ones will be along shortly to advise.

The staining on that plug suggests it may have a defective seal between the ceramic part and the metal  :-/ Could just be from the oil though.

Either way, the cam cover gaskets need sorting, the breathers need checking in case this has caused the cam cover gasket failure and I'd put a new set of plugs in while you're at it just to be on the safe side.  :y

Regarding the stuck plug it might be worth giving it a try on both a hot and cold engine. It may be easier to shift when hot.

A little smear of copper grease on the threads isn't a bad idea when you fit the plugs.

I would be very wary of the ht leads, does'nt take much oil to fry them. Patchway Autoparts do set for  a reasonable amount, Bosch from memory.

One thing i did notice is it misfires considerably less if i use SUPER UNLEADED or higher octane fuels?

Will be going to the VX dealer on Friday to get all the gaskets and new set of spark plugs..

Hopefully the weather will be dry so i can get on with it...

Also hoping that blasted Spark plug comes out with a bit more force... (could i use a lubricant down the hole ...WD40 or something?) or will that get into the engine and cause problems??

Would appreciate your opinions.

A squirt of penetrating lubricant around the plug won't hurt. WD40 is not a good penetrating lubricant, however, IMO. I'd use Plus Gas.

This will relieve any friction from the sealing washer but probably won't penetrate into the thread. Worth doing as it can't do any harm, and don't worry about a small amount getting into the cylinder. Try and spray plenty around the plug and leave it to soak for 15 mins before you try to remove it.

rather hell, didn't you try asking for trade.
Got a set of plugs, cam cover gaskets & o rings and it only came to £70.32.
Have you tried asking your company mechanics if they can get you VX bits at trade it would save you a fortune.
