« on: 20 July 2007, 09:20:32 »

How do you know if the water pumps knackered?

What noises do you get?

On start up im getting this loose type bearing noise!!! and water pump is the only thing ive not changed since ive had the car (4 yrs) its defo not the engine, and the cam belt kit was done 2 yrs ago, so really I dont know if its had one, should I has a precaution?

Thanks

Remove aux belt, you should be able to feel play or rough bearings in pump.

If you dont know history, alwasy worth changing waterpump with cambelt, then change every other cambelt

You might be able to get a listening stick onto the back of it with the engine running?

Considering that the belt kit is halfway through its life, for the sake of £35 (New kit £70, yours is halfway through its life, so only losing half of its life, so 70/2 = £35), I would change the belt kit.

I would use genuine parts if you can get them cheap, as they are of a known, decent quality.

Ive just phoned my local Vx dealers and they've quoted me £103.40 inc VAT  :( for the cam kit, and the water pump £57.63, this is when a trade card would come in handy! something I have not got :'(

Yes.

Cambelt kit is £90 +VAT retail, £70 +VAT TC, pump is £51 + VAT retail, £26+VAT TC.

Get yourself signed up to Autobahnstormers for £20 per year to get TC card ;) - you'll make up this £20 with the first lot of oil you buy...
