From memory there are two feeds to the cruise actuator that enable it to activate. Both of them are +12v. There are three switches to disengage the cruise unit (on the stalk, brake and clutch) these are all press to break switches.
From looking at the Haynes book there are various circuits that Vx have used. In fact when I installed cruise I found out that my loom was different to what Haynes thought anyway.
Back to your problem. If you are certain that there is no clutch connector, then here is what I would do
connect up the stalk and the brake switch and take a pin readout from the cruise multi plug (I will find my post from some months ago with this info on see here
http://www.omegaowners.com/forum/YaBB.pl?num=1170492943/15 ).
THis will tell you which of the two positive feeds (that the cruise unit senses for it to operate, these are pin A and pin D as referred to in the post) are currently working for your cruise unit.
The next thing to do will be to work out how your switches are working. for example if pin A responds to both brake and cruise disengage button then you will need to connect up a power feed through the clutch switch to pin D.
As long as you are methodocial and are happy to work things through with a multimeter it should be easy enough
Personally I'm pretty amazed if the original wiring for the clutch switch has been used for anything else but as you say, you've had a good dig around and not found anything.
Finally, trust me it will be worth the effort, I would not be without the cruise on mine!
