I will be doing the oil cooler on the said car sometime this week.
1 Is this a hard job to do or more time consuming?
2 What will be needed as in parts wise?
3 Coolant flush (how many times)?
4 Oil change as well?

Can someone advise me on this as this will be the first time I will be doing this please.

There is bugger all to it......remove the oil filter, drain the coolant, disconnect the two coolant hoses and then there is 4 bolts holding the heat exchanger/oil filter asembly (its all one lump) to the block, remove them and the whole lump comes off...

Clean well and fit with a new gasket......

Are you sure its the oil cooler gone......

Well he has told me that the oil cooler has been bypassed and there was like a white cream gundge in the water. (if I have got that the right way round). He has flushed it out a few times but now has a blockage somewhere I think. Also if the car is left for more than a day it has trouble starting. Left for about 5-7 hours she will start. New glow plugs have been fitted. What could be that problem?

Injector bleed off pipes are the usual cause of poor starting on these.....

By by-passed, I assume the coolant lines have been disconnected and bypassed.

First question, how do I sort that problem out with the Injector bleed off pipes?

Simple to fix, replace the pipes....they are a fabric covered pipe that daisy chains from injector to injector and back to the pump.....

Thnx MDTM will do that one first when I get the car.  Now I take it the bypassed pipes will need to be reconnected once the oil cooler has been fitted (might sound a bit stupid coming from me), is there anything else I must do before fitting the new oil cooler first apart from flushing the system and draining the oil?  Also how much will the oil cooler cost?

you need to flush all the creamy crap out of the system first or the new one will block again and waste your time,you could try some low foam washing licuid in there and go for a drive then flush out and if ness repeat untill clear.Or try FORTE  :ycooling system flush,,you can get that from vx dealers.

Thats what I told the guy to get. At least get me two tins of the stuff anyway to double check that it is all clear. Hopefully after this one he will bring all his Omegas to me to repair and service, I could be quids in on this one and ones in the future hey hey

Try the low foam liquid first as it is a detergent which will break down the oil and Clean the surfaces of the hoses and coolant bottle.the coolant bottle can be the worst part to get clean as you cant get to the compartments inside. Then flush with the forte to get rid or the detergant. Good luck and keep us up to speed on how your doing.

Know where I can get 2 or 3m of the pipes so I can do tractor - I imagine buying them as seperate parts may be expensive...

Bleed off pipes always used to be going on MK3 astras. Used to just pop down friendly local garage and would replace for free

I bought a kit for my Astra from a local motor factor - only a couple of quid. Obviously you'd need another 2 pipes

Could do with a cut-to-size length, as need to redo boost sensor pipe as well...

Any comments and help will be appreciated. As you can see the engine has not been kept clean so this is the FIRST thing that gets done before I start on this.
