How to remove inlet manifold 2.5TD/manual
« on: 30 July 2007, 17:11:49 »

Hi
Motor half in bits. Got the inlet manifold undone. Removed vent strip & windscreen wipers but there is not enough room to pull back the inlet manifold to get over fixings :(

It looks like there is an add-in bit round the heating system air filter but it also seems to be well and truly stuck. Is this meant to be removable? If so how?

Wouldn't need to ask some of these questions if I could get a workshop manual for the 2.5 TD... Anyone know where??
Roger

And thanks to Mark admin I now have a set of glow-plugs to fit when I can get there..

I was led to believe it would come off easy to change glowplugs. No way. The front two can be changed with it lifted up an inch, the other four can be changed with it fitted. No I did not buy new gaskets. You will need the patience & dexterity tools. Two of the glowplugs broke fuk em.

The only manual specifically for the Omega 2.5TD that I know of is in French. It doesn't go into a lot of detail, but does give some clues. If you (or anyone) wants one, let me know & I'll see if they're still available.
I've never had a major problem removing the inlet manifold - are you sure that you've removed all 12 of the nuts from the studs (including that nasty one that's almost impossible to get to on the rear cylinder)? Also, on LHD cars, there's a small bracket on the rearmost stud that holds a pipe in place - it can jam things slightly & needs to be pushed clear. The other possibility could be the bracket between the manifold & the oil filter housing - from memory there are 2 "captive" nuts & bolts down there. Apart from that, it just needs to be "juggled" off.
When reassembling I find it useful to replace the nuts using a dab of grease in a socket to stop the nuts falling out & disappearing down into the engine bay - you can spend hours looking for just one of them if you're unlucky! Don't forget to reconnect the manifold vacuum pipe - easy enough to forget because it's practically impossible to see.
Replacing the glowplugs now takes me about 3 hours from start to finish - but the 1st time it was all weekend! While you're in there I'd recommend replacing the injector leak-off pipes that daisy-chain between the injectors & the manifold-to-EGR valve actuator vacuum pipe - they're all rubber/cotton small-bore pipes that go porous after a few years & end up giving problems - they're relatively cheap & you've already done 99% of the work once you're in there.    Good luck.

I'm pretty sure all the nuts were off but it seemed to be 1/4 inch short of coming off the studs.
I didn't want to start carving all th deadening off the bulkhead.
Yes spare nuts are essential for the dropped ones. My workshop has a gravel surface.
