Alarm going off when using key
« on: 05 August 2007, 18:17:29 »

OK so the other day my keyfob was acting up so I had to use the key and every time I opened the door after unlocking it with the key the alarm goes off and I have to turn the ignition on to turn the alarm off! I've now fixed the keyfob (bad solder joint on the battery connection) but the problem is still there when using the key regardless of how I lock it or which key is used (I have 2).

When I opened up the keys there are what appear to be RFID's in them. Is this correct? Is there a reader in the door lock and could this be my problem?

Car is '96 2.5 CDX Auto

Any help appreciated.

Cheers.

i always thought if you lock the car with the key fob you have to unlock it with the key fob again as it sets the imobilizer and if you opened it with key it will set alarm off not 100% though maybe someone can regnlighten me can you reset the alarm by pushing open and shut together on fob with ingition one?

Unlocking with key will set off alarm.

The transponder in key is for immobilser, not alarm.

Alarm will set however you lock the car but requires the car to be unlocked using the rf remote to disable it.

The immobiliser uses a separate transponder in the key and this doesn't require battery power.

Does the remote now unlock the doors? In which case it should also silence the alarm.

All very interesting but in the drivers manual I have it says, with regard to the anti-theft alarm system;

Quote
To switch off
Press button (*pic of open symbol) on the remote control unit
or
turn the key in the driver's door lock towards the front of the vehicle; allow the key to return to its vertical position and remove

so I logically took it that you could switch the alarm off with the key in the driver's door! Could the manual's text be wrong as the pic with the description of how to turn the alarm on shows both the fob and the key but with this text on how to switch it off there is only the fob in the pic...interesting.

Anyway my fob is fully working now so I don't need to use the key and quickly get in the vehicle to switch the alarm off while a security guard is watching me  :-[ (this did happened the other night)

My manual says the same but unlocking with the key doesn't silence it. I think it's a misprint.

So, for legal purposes - don't unlock your Vauxhall car in a built up area at any time between 23:30hrs and 07:00hrs with the key or you will be comitting an offence punishable by fine and up to 6 penaty points on your licence by sounding  the horn when stationary.

Only vauxhall could invent such a pile of crap!

It doesn't really make sense to have the alarm silenced by an insecure lock barrel. As soon as some tea leaf hammers a flat bladed screw driver into the lock and turns, the alarm is useless.

However, if does mean that the alarm and keyless entry system need to be totally reliable. It's also a PITA that you can't easily lock the car without setting the alarm.
