Engine Sound On Startup
« on: 19 July 2007, 21:59:38 »

I'm sure Im paranoid... So I've had the Elite for a week now and every little ratle or noise worries me.
Anyway...
When I first start the car I get a noise coming from under the bonnet that sounds like some sort of pump spinning or an electrical motor of some sort after about 30 seconds it stops. Any Ideas??????????????

Secondary Air Injection (SAI). Normal. If it pisses you off, disconnect the connection to pump, which is in front of the nsf wheel.

It squirts air into the exhausts, to make the cats come up to temperature quicker.

Pull the plug as already stated. If car is already warm then the pump doesn't run anyway because the cats are already hot.,

Mine makes this sound whether it's hot or not. Its the first time I turn the key, then goes after about 20-30 seconds.

Any particular page of the Haynes manual.

Page 4B*4 Picture 6.4a

Sections 4A and 4B are the most used sections in my copy.  ;)

I've nearly wore the print out.  ::)

If it only runs for 30secs why worry about it, vx put it there to do a job, all be it one that does not APPEAR to do much.Myself i would leave it well alone unless it is making one hell of a racket, then if you cant be botherd to fix it then disconnect the sac. ::)

OK guys, I've found this metal unit in front of the NSF wheel... It has rubber hoses coming from it, right???

Is there a simple electrical connector that I can disconnect or a fuse I can pull??
