Cooling Fan Problems 99 Omega 2.0 Auto
« on: 09 August 2007, 22:23:23 »

Hi all I have had a quick look to see if anyone has had this problem before couldnt see anything but sorry if it has already been posted anyway ----

Bought a Vauxhall Omega on a 99 S plate its a 2.0 auto with AC bit of a strange problem well strange to me might be a common problem not upto date with these cars.

First of all no AC on after running for 15 - 20 mins warning light on the temp gauge comes on at over 100 switch the AC on it cools down??? Both fans kick in

Secondly should both fans come on by switching the AC button or just the AC fan?

It's not really a massive problem I'll just drive with the AC on but not good on the old wallet

Temp gauge sits just over 95

Head gasket is fine no real signs of over heating in the past & when I bought it the fan kicked in on its own not doing that now

Checked the fuses all the obvious stuff

Thanks inadvance for any info

I suspect the radiator fan is not coming on when the coolant temperature rises. Running the AC means the fan(s) run continuously so that saves it from overheating.

Have a look in the relay box near the battery for any blown fuses.

Fan switch is on the radiator under the top hose. I guess it's possible that this has died.

Do the fans both turn freely by hand?

Agree, if its going up to dangerous temps (100C) then the fans carn't be kicking in.  Temp switch in rad may be faulty

unplug temp sensor in rad, and short the connector and see if fans come on. If so, faulty sensor...
