Calibra slow starter
« on: 20 August 2007, 10:52:31 »

Hi All,

I know its not an omega, But the wifes calibra is playing up, and hopefully someone can help.

Its a calibra 2.0ltr 16v the one with the red cover, it starts fine when cold, but when it gets warm, its difficult to start, in the way that it seems stuck, and the starter motor is having diffculty turning it.
It's hard to explain it, it sort of goes... rrrrrrrrrrrrrrr  rrrrrr rrr rr r then starts,

Any ideas anyone, I have put a new battery on it so that is ok!!!

Its a K reg (92) done 160,000 miles..

Thanks in advance, Mark.  :y :y :y

There'll be more resistance to cranking when the engine's hot because the rings are nicely oiled and sealing better. This causes more drag on the starter motor and will highlight any problems with the system. If the battery's been eliminated I'd say look for bad connections in the circuit between battery positive terminal and starter motor, and also the negative terminal of the battery to the chassis and / or chassis to engine block.

You may find the defective connection gets hot when you are cranking the engine. I suspect you've got a bad connection somewhere that's causing a bit of resistance. Quite often the crimped connections where the cable meets the battery terminal can get loose. Failing that it could be the starter motor.
