You've been reading the Haynes book of lies, and their wrong, you can't get it from underneath, all done form on top, need to take out the intake trunking, maybe air filer, tensioner, i think that's it, someone else will probably be along and explain a bit more..

I took mine off last night,

disconnect the battery neg lead.
remove the inlet trunk infront of the rad,
slacken the AUX belt tensioner - remove the belt
remove the actual tensioner 2 x torx bolts
now you will have access behind the alt.

it's held on by 2 long pins - 1 at the top, 1 at the bottom.
torx on 1 end and a 17mm at the other.

once you have "dropped" the alternator undo the electrical connectors 8mm and 13mm

I did mine on axle stands

I used 3/8ths extensions bars...note bars.. use a good torch..its a idiot fiddly job...not techy hard just fiddly.

Use the extension bars to go onto the rear of the top nut/bolt and use a T-bar to lock in place and a ratchet on the front.

All I had to remove was the aux belt and tensioner

Best of luck
