Headlights
« on: 04 September 2007, 07:56:35 »

Hi Guys
I have tried searching the forum and found a few ideas but wondered if anyone has managed to fit headlights from a 1999/2000 xenon/projector type Omega, to a 1996 Omega.
Wiring is not much of a problem for me, but I do not really want to do any body mods.

Thanks

Mike

The mini facelift (late 97 to late 99) projector (non HID) headlights are a direct fit with no re-wiring required at all. Fit a set of +50 bulbs at teh same time and the results are excellent.

HID (commonly and incorrectly refered to as xenons) upgrades are more complex because, in theory they need auto leveling and washers but, this may only be for type approval during design and prototype stages and I am yet to fnd any specifics in the MOT test which would stop them achieveing a pass. DO be aware that if going down this route that wiring changes are eccassary adn that if you have bulb check control some further tweaks will be required.

Or, if your current lenses are just yellowy, sand them with some fine wet and dry and then buff them up with G3 or T-cut.

(Off topic  :-X ) HID - This one wasn't the least bit complex. Went in a treat, no wiring alterations at all and no 'check control' problems  :)

Manta - the most popular option is the 'mini-facelift' lights (as suggested) They too are 'projector' style, much easier to find. There's only one guy on here that sticks out as having them changed to the facelift lights, but this is a whole new front end!

The concern I would have is them lining up with the bonnet? Try it mate! You may start a new trend  ;)

How.....the true HID setup has a bloody great big ballast pack on the underside of the headlight with a totaly different connector on it......this draws less current than a filament bulb and results in a check control message.

Ah, no, I should have elaborated  ;) I cheated a little and went aftermarket  ::) But is the best upgrade ever done! Top job and fitted an absolute treat  :)

If the bits ever come my way (rocking horses spring to mind) then i'll look at doing it properly, but for now, this is better than I could have ever expected  :D

Hello again
Many thanks for the replies, they have been most helpful, especially the pics. I really must learn how to post pics on these forums. I have been told how many times but just can't seem to get the hang of it.
Nice to no there are some very friendly people amongst the Omega drivers.
I do actually wave to one Omega every morning on way to work, but he has yet to respond. Perhaps it comes from to many years of driving Manta's where every one looked and waved.

Many Thanks

Mike

I've found the best thing to get drivers to respond in a positive way is to use all 4 fingers as well as the thumb to wave with, instead of just the longest finger on its own........   ;D

Glad you are receiving some benefit from bouncing around here!   ;)

Ah! But Peter, I am looking for FACELIFT front lights you MUNKEH! There are a few old style sets around cos everybody is scrapping those rusty old heaps  ;D ;)

Manta - I think we've now answered your question a little better, if you look at those (pre-facelift) front lights (similar to yours) you will see a body coloured strip along the bottom supporting the washer jets....

The facelift lights are a slightly different in the fact that the strip is separate from the unit itself and is a blank piece, washers are installed in the bumper. Not 100% sure but I don't think they will be a straight forward fit  :-/

Hell, i'm not sure at all really! My choice - I would source some cheaper mini-facelift projector style lights (like those above but not Xenon) and fit an aftermarket HID/xenon kit. Job done  :y

Pete, are you gonna do the job properly and install the automatic levelling and washers!?! Happy hacking!  ;)
