Cruise Control
« on: 29 August 2007, 16:41:26 »

Just bought a 2.2 CD Auto, love the car, however it lacks a Cruise Control.

Is there a possibility of getting one retro-fitted? If so does anyone have an idea of the costs involved?

Where are you - near Brackley or Nottingham?

Is car auto or manual?

Easy peasy. Buy a new indicator/cruise stalk. Fit it yourself, 5 minutes if you take your time and you're really careful. Take it to someone with a Tech2 to programme and you're away. I got mine done by a local chap who charged me about £30 from memory. But there are a couple of members on here who have the capability, one in N'hamptonshire and one in Notts.

Thats a shame....

Still, brand new cruise stalk £32 + VAT from dealer, then find someone with a real Tech2 to enable it.

Thanks for this, and the prompt response.

Only problem is I can barely fit the key in the lock nevermind fit a new indicator stalk, ok so I need to find a garage with a Tech2 in the Northeast to fit and reprogramme.
I guesse we are talking about couple of hundred quid then? Assuming I can find a garage with a Tech2.

EDIT- After a google it appears not many garages advertise having a Tech2. Any suggestions? I am loathed to go to the main dealer as they charge £50 to say hello.

Seriously changing the stalk is about as easy as inserting a key:

5 screws, 2 clips and one plug.  There is a how to somewhere but one of us can give you lots of step by step help.  Really if you know the right and wrong end of a screwdriver you can do it in 10 minutes

Cheers, may have sourced a garage with Tech2. Will I need a part number for the stalk or is there is only 1 for the 2.2 petrol auto?

Part No. is 9181011 and are just over £30 quid , once you've fitted it just pop down to your local Vx dealer and ask for the workshop manager and tell him you've just fitted cruise control stalk but it's not working and chances are he'll hook up to Tech2 for you and enable it (look surprised!!) and then slip him a few quid for his trouble , anyway that's exactly what I did, so for under £50 i got cruise control as hopefully you will too.
Cheers Pete

Haven't looked at that item, but for the low cost of stalk, and the very high failure rates of older stalks, buy new every time ;)

If you want something done Tech2 wise at a dealer (not that I ever go to one!) ...

Don't say "could you possibly do this on the computer etc.."

I find that if I Talk more technical, eg say Could you spare me 5 minutes to quickly read this system with Tech2... they'll think "he knows his stuff, best not try to rip him off!)"

And, post on here when you have done it. It was the first thing I did on mine and I was walking around with an idiot smile for ages just thinking that I had done something worthwhile on my car.

Give it a go!!!
