This may sound silly but does the key not open just the drivers door? :-[

Turn the key clockwise in the drivers door. You won't see the lock button come up but it will unlock the door then you can open the bonnet with the release lever.

If you only ever use the key fob to open/close your door, you'll probably
find that the lock has seized up through lack of use.

Spray some WD40 directly into the lock by pushing the the thin plastic
pipe that comes with the WD40 directly into the key slot.

Leave to soak for a while then keep wiggling the key in the lock
with more spraying until it works free.

Don't use excessive force with the key whilst the lock is seized, as you
run the risk of snapping the key.
(I've seen this happen)   :(

Does the key turn freely clockwise?
Or does it not turn at all?

If it doesn't turn you'll have to keep working it with WD40.

If it turns freely, give it a little more pressure clockwise
and pull on the door handle whilst the pressure is still on.

As Grumpy says, and remember you won't see the lock button come up but it will unlock so keep trying the door as you do it.

I thought that the doors fail open for the sake of safety?

I was under the impression that although very stiff, it'll still unlock with a bit of force from deadlocked

and freely to about 2oclock

Nearly there. That's the first resistance point that you'll feel.
You have to force it clockwise a little further to overcome
this resistance and then it will open.

Cool, I've done it on a 98 MY car so it should be the same. You may need to be a little "firm" when turning the key clockwise then you should be able to get the door to open.
