help
« on: 07 September 2007, 11:21:20 »

brain picking time        the only two little niggles I have with my '02 2.2 petrol CD are    the service light (spanner) comes on almost every day      switch engine off then re start     and that usually sorts it   it's been happening for years and when it was under warranty had the ECU changed     every time it's in for service    they can't find anything wrong                and the other thing is a fairly recent occurence ... the auto selector lever rattles     and its annoying            any ideas ?
thanks

yes it starts and runs no problem             it usually comes on at around 30mph   and if I stop, switch off the engine, then re start it doesn't usually come back on               the mechanic who services the car connects his computer and gets a reading that is undefined or something like that       he thinks it is some sort of emissions sensor ???
thanks

Just as a place to start, you could try taking off the connector to the MAF sensor and giving it a clean out on both the connector and the MAF mating connector and see what happens.

Is the spanner sticking out of the top of a car on your dashboard....if so it's not a service light...it's a warning light.

If the MAF or Lambda sensor was playing up it would light the emissions warning lamp instead, as this car will have both.

Sounds like cam/crank sensor to me.  :-X

Go on....shoot me down  :-/
